In Brussels, coffee is more than just a beverage – it’s a journey through flavours, creativity, and local passion. Thomas Wyngaard, owner and founder OK Coffee and a dedicated coffee educator and guide, takes us on a tour of his favourite spots where coffee is celebrated with unmatched dedication and skill. From hidden gems to renowned establishments, each venue offers a unique experience that reflects Brussels’ vibrant coffee scene.
Discover handcrafted brews at Bouche, delve into the innovative menu at Stella Atelier, and savour the specialty roasts at Mok. Whether you’re seeking a bold espresso or a meticulously prepared pour-over, get ready to indulge in Brussels’ finest coffee offerings and explore the city’s rich coffee heritage.
BOUCHE
Located just behind the Royal Palace, Bouche is undoubtedly one of Brussels’ finest coffee bars. The kind of place where you’ll find a mini refrigerator stocked with competition-quality coffees made to order just for your pleasure, Bouche ranks 48th among the world’s top 100 coffee bars.

STELLA ATELIER
Offering savoury food, homemade pastries, and expertly crafted coffee, Stella Atelier has blossomed from its humble beginnings as a corner coffee bar into a beautiful space wih an enchanting garden. The drinks menu is creatively diverse. I particularly recommend trying the Rosewater Latte, or adding an espresso shot for a ‘dirty’ twist. They also serve an Italian-style Shakerato that’s worth indulging in – it’s my weakness there… Slurp!

BATCH
Batch is that rare gem in Brussels, combining a restaurant, wine bar, and coffee bar in one refined yet welcoming setting. Don’t miss their filter coffee or single estate espresso, with guest roasts that change regularly. Beyond coffee, I can’t resist indulging in their rösti, a tender and crispy potato pancake.

MOK COFFEE
At Mok, you’re at the source. This coffee bar belongs to one of Belgium’s premier roasters, ranking 16th among the world’s top 100 coffee bars. Enjoy classic drinks or venture into more experimental territory, like their cascara served on tap, nitrogen-flushed for a creamy foam. They also offer nitro coffee on tap, which I recommend pairing with one of their miso cookies – it’s a symphony in flavour.

FRANK
Arguably Brussels’ first hybrid venue, Frank features both a barista station with top-tier equipment and a kitchen with skilled chefs. It blends Australian-style brunch with high-quality, responsibly sourced ingredients and boasts one of the city’s finest coffee bars. My go-to here is the polenta and lemon cake paired with a batch brew (filter coffee). With two locations in Brussels, Frank is a must-visit.

MY SECRET ADDRESSES
Sometimes you need more than coffee. Here are my personal recommendations, where you’ll find coffee and an authentic, local experience. While the coffee may not always compete at a barista competition level, the overall experience more than makes up for it. Join me on a journey through Brussels’ streets!
MG BOUTIQUE
Nestled in the heart of Marolles, Brussels’ historic district, this quaint wine bar is one of the city’s friendliest and most authentic spots. Owned by Gia, it’s known for its specialty: concentrated ginger. Beyond that, enjoy tarte tatin, crepes, and my current favourite: Moroccan herb crepes called msemen zaatar, paired with a filter coffee.
Rue du Chevreuil 9, 1000 Brussels
KHOBZ
At this bakery, you’ll discover bread and baked goods like never before. Zied and his team work magic with exceptional ingredients and unmatched creativity. Don’t miss their specialty coffee served at the counter – it’s worth crossing the city for.
Rue Washington 204, 1050 Brussels
GLACIER GASTON
A haven of quality indulgence, Glacier Gaston is where I indulge in affogato, the famous Italian dessert drink. With their three outlets, they put a unique twist on it by pairing it with a scoop of citrus sorbet or pistachio ice cream – a delightful match with coffee.

JACQ’S
Jacq’s is a contemporary toast bar that’s always a delight for the palate, especially if you’re a fan of melted cheese. I contributed to the coffee aspect of this project and was pleasantly surprised to find my grandmother’s famous gâteau au petits-beurres on the dessert menu – a beloved Belgian classic. It may not be the most glamorous dessert, but it’s incredibly comforting and I don’t know of any other place in Brussels that serves it. We gladly cross the city for it, paired with a black coffee or latte depending on the mood.
Rue Defacqz 24, 1000 Brussels
KAGE
I’m making an exception to talk about matcha here. Kage is Brussels’ newest matcha bar, opening its doors in early 2025. In addition to various matcha varieties, they offer hojicha, rarely found in Brussels, along with genmaicha and other teas. My guilty pleasure here is the madeleine with genmaicha icing and a small hojicha latte with oat milk – a fantastic combination.
