Elio+1: A Year-Long Pop-Up Bringing Rome’s Best Chefs To The Hoxton

Elio, at The Hoxton, Rome, has always been a spot for good food, great company, and a little magic over a meal. Next up, the eatery is taking things up a notch with Elio+1 – a year-long pop-up series that brings some of the city’s most exciting chefs to its kitchen, serving up limited-time menus alongside Elio’s everyday classics.

A restaurant within a restaurant

Kicking off in February 2025, Elio+1 is an ongoing series that will see four of Rome’s best-loved culinary talents take it in turns to host an Elio kitchen takeover. Each guest chef (or chefs) will serve a special menu for four months, cooking up their signature dishes while keeping Elio’s laid-back, big-hearted spirit alive.

So, what does that mean for your next meal at The Hoxton, Rome? Well, you’ll still find Elio’s greatest hits on the menu – think veal Milanese with homemade mayo, vitello tonnato, crispy fried artichokes, silky tagliatelle with rich meat ragù, and a chocolate brownie of dreams. But you’ll also get a fresh rotation of guest chefs bringing in their own flavours and recipes, shaking things up in all the best ways.

Who’s first up?

First up are Mirko and Tiziano Palucci, the powerhouse duo behind Barred, a bistro that’s been innovating San Giovanni’s food scene since 2016. Known for bold flavours, creative dishes, and a killer wine list, Barred has made a name for itself by ditching the rulebook and cooking without labels or limits.

Their menu for Elio+1? A mouthwatering ride from starter to dessert, packed with unexpected pairings that blend regional traditions with international twists. Whether you want to try one standout dish or go all-in on the full experience, you can mix and match as you like – no rules, no fixed menus, just great food done right.

It all starts with a party

Following on from Mirko and Tiziano, every four months a new chef will take the reins, adapting the menu to the seasons, shifting between our cosy lobby in winter and our sun-soaked outdoor terrace in summer: the likes of Retrobottega, the wildly inventive spot run by Alessandro Miocchi and Giuseppe Lo Ludice, two chefs who’ve turned their kitchen into a playground for bold flavours, natural wines, and next-level creativity. They’ll be followed by Mazzo, the beloved project of Francesca Barreca and Marco Baccanelli, who made their big comeback in 2023 after years of pop-ups and passion projects.

And the final guest? That’s under wraps for now – but trust us, you’ll want to stick around to find out.

Elio+1 isn’t just about bringing new flavours to The Hoxton Rome, it’s also about celebrating the chefs, restaurants, and ideas that make this city’s food scene so special. So, whether you’re a regular, a first-timer, or just someone who loves a good meal, pull up a chair. It’s going to be a delicious year.
