"There's something special about being a tourist in my own city." Hanging out with Londoner Victoria Peacock

London-based DJ, culture-lover, traveller and Hox Friend Victoria Peacock checked into The Hoxton, Holborn with her mum for a nostalgia-tinted staycation.

Known for her impeccable taste, infectious energy and love of travel, Victoria brings her signature style to every city she visits – and Hox Holborn holds a particularly special place in her heart. Over the weekend, she checked in with her Mum for a little London staycation, so we caught up with her to hear about her London rituals, her next trip, and the neighbourhood eats, drinks and culture spots she swears by.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Being from Essex, East London has always been my stomping ground. I love hitting up coffee shops, restaurants and bars – and especially my local spots Suba, Singburi and E Pelici near The Hoxton, Shoreditch.

I head up culture marketing for [restaurant] Nando’s. My role allows me to travel the world and work with incredible talent on amazing projects. The first thing I do in a new city is seek out the local coffee shop and try the local cuisine. You can really understand a city and its culture through the food. Top tip: to get a legit feel of a place, ask your taxi driver their favourite restaurant .

As an old school raver, when I’m abroad I seek out the best club nights. If I’m in London, I’ll follow my talented friends wherever they’re performing –  whether its Grace Campbell at the Soho Theatre, Kurupt FM at Drumsheds, Suzi Bakos supper clubs or Raw Silk DJ sets across London.

I love watching films on the big screen at The Castle Cinema in Clapton or the gorgeous Everyman cinemas. I love to debrief with friends after watching films – even when we’re in different cities – as it keeps us connected.

We’re meeting at The Hoxton Holborn, where you’re a regular. What does this space mean to you?

My first internship, 15 years ago, was in Covent garden. It was just a five minute walk from The Hoxton, so this area feels very homely for me.

I feel like I’m on holiday when I’m in Covent Garden – even when I’m working. I like to grab a coffee from Monmouth street and drink it at the Phoenix Garden, a secret fairytale garden in the heart of London.

As a Hox Friend, I always pop into The Hoxton for a coffee, cocktail or chill when I’m in the area. On a summer’s day, the walk or cycle from Holborn to Shoreditch is really lovely and you always notice something different.

You’re here with your mum this weekend, what’s the occasion?

Mum and I have had cute days in central London since I was young, so it’s very nostalgic to spend time with her up town. Our favourite thing to do is drink coffee and champagne, on repeat. We’ve been to every hotel lobby in London 100 times – they’re always the best place to chill (and The Hoxton is one of our faves).

London really is the greatest city in the world, especially at this time  of year. There’s something very special about being a tourist in my own city.

We know you love to travel, where’s on the agenda next?

I’m between US and UK for work, and will always use the Hoxton Chicago and New York as a home from home. You can always rely on their coffee, cocktails and cosy rooms.

The aim is to visit most countries in the world! The goal is to leave each country feeling like you’ve made friends with the locals and have given back to the community.

My next girls trip is Brazil for New Year! We can’t wait for serious food tours, beach days, Caipirinhas and local music.

Finally, give us your top tips in Holborn and beyond…
