Skates, stacks and studio nights: Stolen Nova x The Hoxton x Marshall

Tell us a little about yourself – what do you do and what inspires your work?

I grew up around Venice beach, skateboarding and surfing. All the weirdos I met and survived there dented and shaped me in some way. I steal lines from the books I read and movies I watch. I’m inspired by other people living to the fullest; an Orson Welles interview, Jay Adams skateboarding, Lauren Bacall’s attitude, Hendrix chaining together 3 100-Watt Marshall Full Stack amps and then nearly knocking them all down and setting them on fire.

What do you love most about living in LA?

I don’t live anywhere; I’ve been a nomad for the last two years touring playing music. When I’m in London I love to ride a bike around and go to concerts and just be in the street and meet people. When I’m in LA I love to skate in empty swimming pools with my brother and record music in my studio.

What’s the best gig you’ve been to?

It was definitely Oasis last month at Wembley in London, definitely maybe!!!

How does the city influence your creativity or daily life?

There’s so much incredible film and music history here in LA that the ghosts of it haunt you wherever you go.

What’s one hidden gem or local spot you think everyone should know about?

The Kibbitz Room at Canter’s Deli, the wildest place in Los Angeles – if you know, you know.

Tell us a bit about your stay at The Hoxton – what were the highlights?

Honestly the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the staff were awesome. Not sure if everyone is allowed to crank up a Marshall full stack in their room but they didn’t seem to have a problem with me doing it! Also, not only do I love Marshall amps but the look and sound of the little Marshall stereo speakers in the room rule.

How do you make sure you feel at home when travelling for work?

I always have my guitar and a lot of different clothes. I carry an interface and can record in my hotel room anywhere I go. I keep a skateboard at a friend’s house in each city.

What’s next for you – any projects or plans you’re excited about?

“Dancing With A Ghost” is coming out this November.
