A Stay For A Stay
We’re proud once again to be supporting our local shelters to raise some much-needed funds and awareness around homelessness this winter. The challenges of the pandemic have brought the reality of homelessness closer to many than ever before and local shelters have never been so relied upon.
For every stay in any Hoxton around the world this February (booked before 31st Jan) we’ll donate a stay in a shelter for someone who really needs it. The more stays booked, the more people we can help. So how about that February break you were thinking of?
The sheer scale of it
Sadly, homelessness isn’t an issue that’s going away on its own. The pandemic was challenging for everyone in many ways, but none more so for those facing eviction, unemployment and without a place to call home.

Rising numbers
In New York, 48,000 people, including 15,000 children, will sleep in homeless shelters tonight. While in London alone, more than 70,000 households have been made homeless since the start of the pandemic, with tens of thousands more facing the immediate threat of homelessness. Staggeringly, the number of people sleeping rough has more than tripled since 2005, with eviction from private landlords and domestic violence being the main causes.
Pandemic closures
Many shelters had to close during the pandemic due to social distancing concerns and regulations. In London, there were only 950 shelter beds available this winter compared with 2100 prior to the pandemic, meaning many more were forced onto the streets with little to no help. Shelter From The Storm was one of the only shelters that remained open in London, providing those in need with a hot meal and a bed for the night.
