Our story

Just like our doors, our minds are open too. Since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, London in 2006, we’ve never just been about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that, providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces. Then there's our eclectic programme of monthly events where we bring the outside in, working with local creatives to curate events unique to each location.


We proved that style didn’t need to be sacrificed for value, and honest pricing is still very much at the heart of everything we do. We opened our second London hotel in 2014, followed by Amsterdam in 2015, Paris in 2017. Williamsburg Portland, Los Angeles are all to come in 2018 with Chicago following in 2019. Each hotel has its own character; however, you’ll find the familiar Hoxton Hustle in each, incorporating the uniqueness of their neighborhoods using local designers, artists, and illustrators for everything from interiors to wallpaper, art and neighborhood guides.


The Hoxton, Williamsburg is on the site of the Rosenwach factory, the maker of the iconic NYC water towers. Featuring 175 bedrooms, a vibrant public area, restaurant, terrace bar, and roof desk along with The Apartment, our events and meeting space; The Hoxton, Williamsburg will be at the center of the Williamsburg community.


The details

The role will initially be based at Hox House NYC, our Head office located in Williamsburg, then moving on site to The Hoxton, Williamsburg. You’ll report to the Director of Restaurants and Bars– The Hoxton, Williamsburg, the Executive Chef – The Hoxton, Williamsburg, and have a close working relationship with Amos Kelsey, Hotel Manager of The Hoxton, Williamsburg.


You’ll be responsible for setting up The Hoxton, Williamsburg kitchen operations. This will initially involve helping to develop the systems that ensure a successful opening of the food and drink spaces at The Hoxton, Williamsburg, and managing the day to day kitchen related activities for the hotel immediately after it opens.



Here’s an idea of how we see the role…

Overview - Initial Phase:

  • Set up operations of the kitchen to maximize profitability, minimize legal liability, and conform to food safety regulations
  • Recruit and hire a top-notch heart of house team to guide operations through the hotel and restaurant openings
  • Set up systems that ensure a successful inspection by the NYC Department of Health
  • Set up recipe books, item order lists, prep lists, and inventory systems
  • Coach, train, and develop line cooks, prep cooks, and porters
  • Properly and adequately train team while focusing on maintaining a high team morale in keeping with The Hoxton culture


Overview - Post Opening Functions:


  • Execute, and produce top-notch food with a constant eye on the highest quality standards, presentation, and flavor, with an eye on industry trends and neighborhood demands. Contribute to the creation of recipes alongside the executive Chef.
  • Supervise operations of kitchens to maximize service potential, always finding ways to enhance the guest experience through memorable and delicious dishes and properly timed meals
  • Ensure budget goals are achieved with industry leading metrics, with a specific focus on food and labor costs
  • On board and create training programs for new hires
  • Maintain all log books, including temperature and receiving logs
  • You’ll take ownership of the restaurant operations and make decisions based on the good of the guest, the company and the people that are part of it
  • Ensure statutory compliance in all food and drink related areas
  • Oversee expediting of service
  • You will keep well-organized store rooms and inventories that allow for smooth running kitchens
  • Oversee any kitchen related issues relating to kitchen staff and facilities maintenance
  • Continuously monitor and gauge the morale of the team, find creative ways to encourage staff retention, and through example, instill a passion to learn and grow
  • Train, Coach, Develop, and repeat. Consistently build a people pipeline in which growth is encouraged and we strive to promote from within
  • Investigate and resolve any food-related concerns, including foodborne illness and foreign object complaints
  • Perform inventories as directed and properly maintain levels in inventory systems.
  • Hold team accountable for proper set up and breakdown procedures
  • Oversee a maintenance program that protects and extends the life of our equipment
  • Follow and enforce cleaning and maintenance standards to ensure an A- Grade from the NYC Department of Health
  • Build and sustain relationships with vendors and distributors

About you

  • You will be an experienced chef, with leadership experience possibly from the individual restaurant field or from an innovative hotel environment
  • Ideally, you will have experience of restaurant openings
  • You’ll live and breathe food and drink, knowing what’s hot, what’s not and who’s who
  • You’ll be a stickler for quality
  • You make people feel good - your team, guests and colleagues alike
  • Methodical and process-driven approach to tasks, but also able to work flexibly and calmly to meet deadlines
  • You love the creativity of food and drink, and enjoy finding new ways to innovate
