We are currently recruiting for an experienced Director of Finance to lead all pre-opening activities for The Hoxton, Williamsburg and manage the day to day financial activities for the hotel.

Featuring 175 bedrooms, The Hoxton, Williamsburg is due to open in early 2017 and is situated on Wythe Avenue on the original site of the Rosenwach factory, makers of the iconic wooden water towers dotted along the skyline of New York City.

We don't go for strict long winded job descriptions, however here's an idea of how we see the role...

Day to day Finance Functions

  • Oversee the daily hotel banking and deposit it into the bank account
  • Ensure that a complete daily income audit on the hotel’s daily revenue is carried out, and resolve and correct any variances in a timely manner
  • Review front office guest ledgers to ensure no   high   risk   from   in   house   guests, including  monitoring  the  PMS  paymaster  list  and  ensuring  no  account  is  over  three  days old, and ensure compliance with this policy   by   working   with   Front  Office/Meeting & Events teams as   required
  • Oversee that all suppliers invoices are appropriately authorised by the various Heads of Department and processed into the purchase ledger on a timely basis, and that payments to all suppliers are processed in a timely manner
  • Oversee the sales ledger, ensuring that all invoices are checked and  sent  to customers  within  three  days  of checkout and  that robust credit control is  carried out
  • Respond to any guest/supplier queries in a timely bases
  • Produce journals at month end to ensure correct accrual of supplier liabilities
  • Ensure all fortnightly payroll timesheets from  the  various  departments  are  checked  and sent to the payroll processing agency, and team members are paid when due
  • Account for stock movements, update the asset register for any new  asset additions    and prepare the depreciation journal
  • Ensure that the Hotel Operations team is made aware of any continued variances to expected performance, and flag up training needs relating to other departments
  • Complete the month end process, review and submit monthly reports in a timely manner and respond to any queries and follow up activity agreed with Hox House in London

 Likely Background

  • The candidate must be technically skilled, have a good understanding of best practice hotel operations and standard systems
  • A strong grasp of local statutory compliance  requirements
  • Recent experience of working in a self-accounting hotel. There is a preference for prior experience of reporting into  a  head  office,  but  the  candidate  should  also  show  that he/she has the initiative and capability to manage a team independent of head office oversight  when required
  • Experience of hotel openings and finance function set-up is very strongly preferred
  • Methodical  and  process-driven  approach  to  tasks,  but  also  able  to  work  flexibly  and calmly in order to meet  deadlines
  • Ability to take ownership of important issues, solve problems and make effective decisions
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to The Hoxton’s unique culture
  • Ability to work positively and collaboratively to achieve the highest standards  of  delivery at work
