Our story

Just like our doors, our minds are open too. Since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, London in 2006, we’ve never been just about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that, providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces. Then there's our eclectic program of monthly events where we bring the outside in, working with local creatives to curate events unique to each location.

We proved that style didn’t need to be sacrificed for value and honest pricing is still very much at the heart of everything we do. We opened our second London hotel in 2014, followed by Amsterdam in 2015, Paris in 2017, Williamsburg and Portland in 2018, with Los Angeles, and Chicago all coming soon. Though each hotel has its own character, you’ll always find the familiar Hoxton Hustle, incorporating the uniqueness of each neighborhood using local designers, artists, and illustrators for everything from interiors to wallpaper, art, and neighborhood guides.

The Hoxton, Portland will be situated in an iconic building with an incredible history dating back to 1906. Located in Portland’s Old Town Chinatown, The Hoxton, Portland will have lively, welcoming public spaces providing a place where guests can hangout alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood, plus 119 bedrooms, a variety of engaging, culinarily progressive restaurants and bars.

A vibrant public area is at the heart of The Hoxton, with open spaces, designed in a way that feels inclusive and invites you to just hang out. The Hoxton, Portland will have a strong focus on local food and drinks done exceptionally well, with provisions for over 220 covers across two restaurants and three bars including a rooftop patio, a basement bar, a Proud Mary coffee outlet, and relaxed dining in the lobby restaurant.

The Hoxton is more than simply selling bedrooms. We give each person who walks through our doors an experience—a chance to hang out with the locals and discover the neighborhood. The Hoxton’s monthly cultural program gives local creatives a space to showcase their work, from fashion and music to technology and art. Coupled with the neighborhood guide—a selection of the best local haunts, cherry picked by the team and our neighbors—it’s the go-to resource for what’s going on in our hood.

The details

  • Take ownership of the restaurant and bar spaces
  • Make decisions based on ensuring happiness for the guests, the company, and the team as well as maximizing profitability…all with the moral integrity of the Hox code
  • On board and execute training programs for new hires
  • Make sure the OLCC, health codes, and all additional statutory standards are met
  • Maintain well-organized storage rooms and accurate inventories
  • Oversee any service issues relating to all FOH staff, maintenance, restaurant up-keep, and cash handling
  • Ensure return visitors and foster relationships with regulars through warm, genuine hospitality and impeccable service; develop one-on-one rapport with returning guests
  • Welcome neighbors into the Hox family through community and guest engagement
  • Continually “take the temperature” of the staff morale; find creative ways to foster lasting team members
  • Lead by example; instill a passion to learn and grow
  • Investigate and resolve any guest concerns
  • Assist in proper opening and closing procedures

About you

  • You will be an experienced food and drink manager with a background showcasing the industry’s top restaurants and/or innovative hotels
  • Have experience in restaurant openings
  • Hospitality is your passion
  • You make a point of keeping current with industry trends
  • You are familiar with community and industry luminaries—both locally and beyond
  • Uncompromised quality is, for you, non-negotiable
  • You make people feel good—your team, guests, and colleagues alike
  • You have a methodical and process-driven approach to tasks, but you also work flexibly and calmly under pressure
  • You are punctual and always meet deadlines
