Our story

Just like our doors, our minds are open too. Since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, London in 2006, we’ve never just been about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that, providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces. Then there's our eclectic program of monthly events where we bring the outside in, working with local creatives to curate events unique to each location.

We proved that style didn’t need to be sacrificed for value and honest pricing is still very much at the heart of everything we do. We opened our second London hotel in 2014, followed by Amsterdam in 2015, Paris in 2017, Williamsburg and Portland in 2018, Chicago this Spring and now Los Angeles coming soon. Each hotel has its own character; however, you’ll find the familiar Hoxton Hustle, each incorporating the uniqueness of their neighborhoods using local designers, artists, and illustrators for everything from interiors to wallpaper, art and neighborhood guides.

The Hoxton, Downtown LA is in a neighborhood that has seen a major revival over the last few years, with some of the city’s best restaurants, shops and bars opening up there and many more in the pipeline. Set in the 10-story original headquarter of the Los Angeles Railway building built in 1925, the building has an interesting and varied history, having later housed a garment manufacturer, candy shop, restaurant, and a grocery store - it’s even had film sets, radio towers and electric signs erected on its rooftop. The Hoxton, Downtown LA will offer 174 rooms designed by Ennismore Design Studio, a ground floor restaurant and basement bar with exciting culinary partners, along with The Hoxton’s first rooftop pool with restaurant and amazing views over Broadway, the historic commercial, theatre and cinema district and one of the oldest streets in the city.

 

The details

The Director of Finance will be responsible for the finance function of our new Los Angeles Hotel. You'll work directly with our North America VP of Finance to ensure that we meet compliance and regulatory standards, monitor and manage accounts, and create a best in class finance function in this exciting period.

The role will initially be based at a pre-opening office in DTLA, moving to The Hoxton, Downtown LA.

We don’t go for long-winded job descriptions, however here’s an idea of how we see the role…

- Joining ahead of the opening the hotel you will be integral in ensuring a successful opening, working with the hotel team and central office to ensure all processes, systems and reporting and in place to effectively manage the hotel

- Play a crucial role in making sure our hotel runs efficiently without compromising our overall goal of providing a fantastic guest experience

- Responsible for a finance team of four that has full responsibility for the hotel function and co-ordinating with centralised payroll you will oversee the financial day-to-day for the hotel, including managing site revenue (and any variances), overseeing the sales ledger, ensuring payments are made and received as expected

- Be a specialist partner to the teams, their go-to for advice that helps them meet their goals and raise commercial and financial awareness across the hotels

- Make sure all our financial processes run smoothly, keeping an eye on how we can improve ways of working

- Manage monthly reporting, taking on our month-end process that incorporates P&Ls, Balance sheet and cashflow

- Manage, coach and develop your team to be a best in class finance team

- Support operations in building accurate and timely budgets and forecasts

- Reconcile tax and process filing & payments to relevant federal, state and city bodies

- Ensuring the external audit is competed on a timely basis and all information requested in presented in a timely manner

- Support in projects that will be implemented across the group

About you

- 5-7 years hotel finance experience

- Technical skill, with a strong understanding of compliance requirements, best practice hotel and restaurant operations, finance function set up and standard systems (PMS systems, reservations systems etc.)

- A strong grasp of local statutory compliance requirements

- Recent experience of working in a self-accounting hotel. There is a preference for prior experience of reporting into a head office, but the candidate  should  also  show  that the initiative and capability to manage a team independent of head office oversight  when required.

- A balance between a methodical and process-driven approach and flexibility and creativity when it comes to meeting deadlines and finding solutions

- Passion for hospitality – whether that’s a drink, a meal, an event or a bed for the night

- You’re all about having a positive impact on the people you interact with, leaving them with a memorable experience

- Ability to work positively and collaboratively to achieve the highest standards of delivery at work

- Your humble and open to We leave our egos at the door and help get shit done
