Our story

Just like our doors, our minds are open too. Since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, London in 2006, we’ve never just been about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that, providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighborhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces. Then there's our eclectic program of monthly events where we bring the outside in, working with local creatives to curate events unique to each location.

We proved that style didn’t need to be sacrificed for value and honest pricing is still very much at the heart of everything we do. We opened our second London hotel in 2014, followed by Amsterdam in 2015, Paris in 2017, Williamsburg and Portland in 2018, Dowontown Los Angeles, and Chicago all coming soon. Each hotel has its own character; however, you’ll find the familiar Hoxton Hustle, incorporating the uniqueness of their neighborhoods using local designers, artists, and illustrators for everything from interiors to wallpaper, art and neighbourhood guides.

The Hoxton, Downtown LA is in a neighborhood that has seen a major revival over the last few years, with some of the city’s best restaurants, shops and bars opening up there and many more in the pipeline. Set in the 10-story Los Angeles Railway building, which was built in 1925, the building has an interesting and varied history, having been the headquarters of the L.A. Railway Authority and later housing a garment manufacturer, a candy shop, a restaurant, and a grocery store - it’s even had film sets, radio towers and electric signs erected on its rooftop. The Hoxton, Los Angeles will offer 174 rooms designed by Ennismore Design Studio, a ground floor restaurant and basement bar operated by a local chef, along with The Hoxton’s first rooftop pool with restaurant and amazing views over Broadway, the historic theatre and cinema district and one of the oldest streets in the city.



The details

The role will initially be based at our satellite office near the property, then moving on site to The Hoxton, Downtown LA.  You’ll report to our Director of Restaurants & Bars, The Hoxton, Downtown LA, and have a close working relationship with the General Manager of The Hoxton, Downtown LA.

You’ll be responsible for setting up The Hoxton, Downtown LA drink operations. This will initially involve helping to develop the systems that ensure a successful opening of the food and drink spaces at The Hoxton, Downton LA, and managing the day to day beverage related activities for the hotel. 


Overview - Initial Phase:

  • Set up the operation of all bars to maximize profitability, minimize legal liability, and conform to alcoholic beverage regulations
  • Directly work with vendors to secure best pricing possible and put together a tip top spirit and wine list
  • Order smartly, aligning purchasing budgets with storage limitations and case break advantages, always utilizing your creativity to think outside of the box
  • Schedule some or all of front of house departments for pre-opening training modules
  • Work with Director of Restaurants & Bars – THDTLA, and management team to interview and recruit all candidates for front of house positions
  • Guide the set up and program the Food and Drink operating systems including Micros
  • Work with culinary partners to create specialty cocktails and wine lists that align with the culinary direction and neighborhood expectations
  • Help to develop key processes for front of house teams


Overview - Post Opening Functions:


  • Supervise the operation of all bars to maximize profitability, minimize legal liability, and conform to alcoholic beverage regulations
  • Ensure budget goals are achieved with industry leading metrics, with a specific focus on beverage costs
  • On board and create training programs for new hires
  • You’ll take ownership of the bar spaces and make decisions based on keeping the guests happy, the company and the people that are part of it.
  • Ensure statutory compliance in all food and drink related areas
  • You will keep well-organized store rooms and inventories that allow for a smooth running beverage program
  • Oversee any bar related issues relating to bar staff, bar maintenance, and cash handling
  • Develop one-on-one rapport with guests, recognize frequent diners, and take great efforts to ensure return visitors through genuine hospitality and clever problem-solving.
  • Welcome neighbors into the Hox family through community engagement
  • Continuously monitor and gauge the morale of the team, find creative ways to encourage staff retention, and through example, instill a passion to learn and grow
  • Investigate and resolve any guest concerns
  • Consistently evaluate sales trends to revise and update wine and cocktail lists. Make updates based on seasons, industry trends, cost savings, and food pairings.
  • Assist in proper opening and closing procedures
  • Supervise operations of floor to maximize profitability, minimize legal liability, and conform to regulations
  • Build and sustain relationships with vendors and distributors


About you:

  • You will be an experienced food and drink operator, possibly from the individual restaurant field or from an innovative hotel environment
  • Have experience of restaurant openings
  • You’ll live and breathe food and drink, knowing what’s hot, what’s not and who’s who
  • You’ll be a stickler for quality
  • You make people feel good - your team, guests and colleagues alike
  • Methodical and process-driven approach to tasks, but also able to work flexibly and calmly in order to meet deadlines
