The details

The role will be based at our North American office in Williamsburg.  You’ll report to the Chief Financial Officer, based in London, with a line to the Managing Director of North America based in New York.



You’ll take overall responsibility for all the North American hotel finance functions. In its initial phase, this will involve building on and taking ownership of the set-up of the finance function, including all pre-opening finance activities for The Hoxton’s pipeline of new North American sites.

In addition to the set-up of the finance functions, and in partnership with other senior team members, you will also play a crucial role in driving forward the wider team’s preparations for the new openings, and the effective execution of pre-opening and operating plans.

Ongoing responsibilities include the below:

  • Establishing the North American Finance Team, providing real value through the provision of quality, timely and accurate information. You will highlight issues, trends and areas where action is required, and act where appropriate.
  • Participating fully as a member of the North American management team, playing a wider role than purely the functional one, actively supporting the team in identifying and developing strategic options and plans which will allow the business to maximize its revenue and profit.
  • Ensuring that the financial platform is appropriate for the challenges facing the organization, underpinned by highly effective systems and processes and a customer-orientated approach.
  • Implementing the group’s financial controls policies and ensure adherence by the relevant team members and, in collaboration with the UK office, support the ongoing development of finance systems, policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing the production of management accounts and distribution of management information to the teams in North America and to the UK. Reporting responsibilities will include the submission of monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the UK in a timely manner, and being the primary point of contact for any questions which the UK finance team may have concerning the North American business’s financial position and performance
  • Overseeing statutory compliance for all hotel entities in their respective regions
  • Being ultimately responsible for the recruitment of Finance teams for all new hotels opening in the US, optimising resources to include possible outsourcing options and regional efficiencies to ensure the finance function remains lean as the business grows, while maintaining rigor and eliminating any exposures.
  • Taking overall responsibility for the planning and execution of pre-opening tasks relating to finance matters, including participation in the negotiation of any outstanding contracts.
  • Implementing controls in multi-location units that deliver full reconciliation, checks and balances, limiting liability and mitigating company exposure to loss

About you

You will be joining at an exciting time for the business, and will possess following experience, skills, and personal characteristics:


Experience and skills


  • Able to demonstrate a track record of success, including the leadership and management skills necessary to oversee operational financial performance effectively
  • Experience of successful management of a finance function across multiple hotel sites, and of setting up finance functions for new hotels
  • Technically skilled, and with a good understanding of best practice in hotel operations and familiarity with standard systems (PMS, reservations, yield-management, and the like). You will have a strong background in restaurant and bars operations run across multiple sites, with ideally new hotel opening experience
  • Sound understanding of group corporate structures, and a strong grasp of local statutory compliance requirements
  • Experience of delivering business change and process improvement
  • CPA / similar qualification is preferred
