Hox How To: Exploring Body Image & Identity Politics
In a world that bombards us with media messages and unknowingly navigates our thoughts on what the beauty ideal is and what beauty looks like, how do you shift your thinking away from the ingrained standards we’ve been sold for decades? Fashion retailers are now actively using ‘plus-size’ models in their campaigns – and with financial benefits – but is it on the cusp of becoming a trend, and are the models really representing what it means to be body positive? How can we actively champion and create a culture of body positivity – of all bodies and everybody – for good, and what can be done to make sure the shift in consciousness is permanent?
Join us for the last event in our Hox How To: Fashion series, for an evening of thought-provoking discussion, workshops and shopping, with some of the industry’s most inspiring, creative and ambitious players. We’ll unpick the biases and ideas around inclusivity and diversity within fashion, and debate how to actively move the body positivity conversation forward.
Returning to The Hox as our moderator and chair for the evening, we've got Tamara Cincick, Fashion Editor, Brand Consultant, CEO and found of Fashion Roundtable and secretariat of the All Party Parlimentary Group for Textiles and Fashion. Tamara will be joined on the panel by British fashion commentator and Professor of Diversity in Fashion, Caryn Franklin MBE; Chidera Eggerue, award-winning blogger & author of 'What A Time To Be Alone' and creator of the #SAGGYBOOBSMATTER movement, Charli Howard, author, model, body positivity ambassador and Founder of the All Woman Project and drag queen polymath Jacon Mallison-Bird.
Caryn Franklin MBE will also be running a Body Confidence Workshop and we'll also be hosting a mini-market of brands promoting body confidence and inclusivity.
