The Hox Gallery: Karl Bielik
It's Karl Bielik's turn to takeover the exhibition at The Hoxton, Holborn. Karl is a London based artist with numerous shows and nominations under his belt. He describes himself as an abstract painter, with all his artwork emerging from the physical process of painting, or from medical book diagrams and photographs.
He can spend months on some pieces, not touching them for weeks or months which offers an incubation time to contemplate where he wants them to go. Karl's curated his exhibition, 'An Old Innocence' just for us, to add a splash of colour to our walls. The name comes from the poem New Heart written in 1918 by the Spanish Poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Karl used it to suggest that the innocence needs to be there in spite of all the things one knows about painting - it needs that open eyed almost child like amazement to make it work...
