Designers in Conversation: Manon van Hoeckel and Anne Mieke Eggenkamp
Bea, co-working space and connectors and supporters of the new generation of creatives, invites two of the most inspiring design minds for this fascinating night of conversation during Dutch Design Week.
Social designer Manon van Hoeckel and previous director of Eindhoven Design Academy Anne Mieke Eggenkamp talks design and society, exploring the disappearance of social interactions in public spaces and society as a whole. Why do we strive to ignore each other – on the train or at the supermarket? What does it say about our society and what are the impacts of such disconnectedness on design?
As a social designer in a world affected by inequalities, integration issues, digitalization and automation, Manon’s mission is to create contexts that encourage strangers to connect and interact meaningfully. The talented pair talk about the role designers play in building more inclusive and empathic societies. They explore the unassuming power of small talk as a way to get past the biases that keep us apart and aggravate our current social issues. Together with a bunch of strangers, join in on the conversation. Come and reflect on human interactions, discover simple ways to move the social integration agenda forward on an individual level and accelerate progress on a global level. We’ll have food to keep you fuelled and drinks to get you chatty. So go ahead and chat one up!
