Hox Gallery Presents: Jonathan Lawes

Where The Hoxton, Southwark
When From July

A shiny new Hox Gallery courtesy of screen-print artist Jonathan Lawes

Hox Galleries is where we showcase awesome neighbourhood talent like screen-print artist Jonathan Lawes, whose artworks are now on display on the Albie Mezzanine at The Hoxton Southwark.

Jonathan is an artist and designer based in Southeast London, experimenting predominantly with the silkscreen printing process.

Graduating from Leeds Arts University in 2009 with a BA in Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design, before he moved abroad and spent the best part of a decade living and working in Berlin. In 2018 he relocated back to the UK and began developing his practice further.

Jonathan creates prints with a distinctly graphic edge, reflecting his love of geometry, shape, and pattern. He has a keen eye for nuance and layering, paying close attention to colour and detail. Abstract compositions are formed organically and develop over time due to his genuine enthusiasm for, and evolution of, the printing process.

The four pieces on display are influenced by a recent trip to the south of Portugal, taking inspiration from the shapes, colours, and textures of the rural landscape. So, stop by for a glass of Vinho Verde and transport yourself to sunnier climes.
